Brownies At Brunch

Do you or someone you know have an insatiable sweet tooth? Do you look for an excuse to eat dessert? Well, lucky for you, August is Brownies at Brunch Month! In honor of this sweet celebration, we decided to make a variety of brownies using some of the mixes we carry here at the Common Market. The great thing is the leftovers make a perfect sweet tooth fix for any lunch.

The Common Market has a pretty wide variety of brownie and cake mixes. So as to not overwhelm ourselves (and to avoid having too many leftovers), we chose three mixes: Pamela’s Gluten-Free Brownie Mix, Organic’s Brownie Mix, and Kodiak Cakes Brownie Mix. For each mix, we chose a different brownie style to give a little variety.

Pamela’s

Pamela’s is already gluten-free and non-dairy, but they also have quite the variety for their brownie mix. We opted for the “fudgiest” option, and we were not disappointed. This option also doesn’t require a lot of additional ingredients, so it was easy to put together. Plus, it has small chocolate chunks!

The end result were some very chocolatey brownies. If you are used to “traditional” brownies, these will be the closest option as they are the softest.

Check out their website for more brownie recipes.

Organics

The Organics brownies required a little more concentration in the mixing efforts because of the need to gently fold in the ingredients. With these, we added Field Day peanut butter to create a peanut butter swirl.

The result of these is delicious. The brownie isn’t super sweet, but the chocolate taste is very evident, and the peanut butter adds another layer of a salty/sweet/nutty flavor. Although a little harder in texture than the Pamela’s, they cut into perfect squares.

Kodiak Cakes

The first statement in the office when we chose this mix was “you mean I don’t have to feel guilty about eating brownies!?” This mix has a whopping 8 grams of protein, plus little chunks of chocolate. Talk about perfect! We decided to create a cheesecake brownie with this mix, so we swirled in a cream cheese mixture (which is just cream cheese and sugar).

If you have ever had a protein drink, protein shot, or anything of the sort, you know how dense (and sometimes chalky-tasting) protein-packed food products can be. These brownies are dense and more cake-like than the others, but the flavor is still full of chocolatey goodness. The cheesecake swirl adds a little creamy sweetness, making this the perfect combination.

Kodiak Cakes’ website is full of delicious-looking recipes for any of their products.

If you have been looking for a brownie mix to add to your kitchen, consider one of these. If you want to try something different, the Common Market has plenty of options to choose from. So take a box, get creative, and tell us what you think!
