May 10 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm$15.00 – $30.00
Together we’ll explore topics such as beginner birding, external anatomy of birds, how to observe birds, and the importance of field marks. We’ll also discuss the use of optics like binoculars and scopes, field guides, and popular birding apps. Bird conservation issues – such as protecting birds and preserving habitat – will be presented and we’ll learn about local and statewide birding and advocacy organizations.
Mike Spurrier has been birding for approximately 35 years. He is currently serving as the president of the Frederick Bird Club and volunteers at the Audrey Carroll Audubon Sanctuary owned and operated by the Audubon Society of Central Maryland. Mike is certified in permaculture design through Oregon State University, holds a bachelor’s degree in sustainability from Goddard College, is currently completing a master’s degree in social innovation and sustainability, and recently completed the Maryland Master Naturalist Program.
