Curious about home funerals, green burials, and end-of-life options available in Maryland?

Join Michael Judd for a thoughtful conversation and guided tour exploring home funeral, home burial, and green burial practices. Michael will share information, resources, and personal experiences while highlighting the long tradition of natural burial and why these choices remain relevant today.

The event will take place at Morris Orchard Natural Burial, Frederick County’s first natural burial site, nestled within a chestnut orchard. Following the talk, guests will have the opportunity to tour the property, gather around an open fire, and enjoy freshly roasted chestnuts.

Whether you are simply curious about natural burial or are beginning to explore end-of-life options for yourself or a loved one, this event offers a welcoming opportunity to learn, ask questions, and experience the site firsthand.

About Michael Judd

Michael Judd has worked with agroecological and whole-system design throughout the Americas for three decades, with a focus on permaculture and ecological design. His work supports local food security, ecological resilience, and community health across both tropical and temperate growing regions.

Michael is the founder of Ecologia Edible & Ecological Landscape Design and Project Bona Fide, an international nonprofit supporting agroecology research. He is also co-founder of SilvoCulture, a Maryland-based nonprofit working to plant one million nut trees throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, and founder of Morris Orchard Natural Burial.

He is the author of Edible Landscaping with a Permaculture Twist and For the Love of PawPaws.

Michael lives with his family on a permaculture homestead nestled along the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains near Frederick, Maryland. Their 25-acre property includes mixed woodlands, food forests, gardens, and a nursery designed for experimentation and education.

Tickets are $10 per person. Advance registration is encouraged.
