DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, participants will be introduced to cyanotype\, a historical alternative photography process popularized by 19th century botanist Anna Atkins. Attendees will gain an understanding of the historical photographic process\, make an artistic composition and walk away with three unique works of art! Produce and flowers from Common Market\, that would otherwise be discarded\, will be used as subject matter. Participants are also encouraged to bring in their own repurposed or collected items. \nJillian Abir MacMaster is a photographic artist from Frederick\, MD. She recently completed an artist residency at Fox Haven Farm in Jefferson\, MD\, where she created cyanotype prints about and using the farm’s herb garden. Her recent solo exhibition The Herbalist: Cyanotypes from Fox Haven Farm in Downtown Frederick showcased the work created during the residency. She had the solo exhibition With Teeth at the Delaplaine Arts Center in 2022. She curated the exhibition Infinite Growth at the Frederick Arts Council in 2022\, which exhibited the work of LGBTQ+ artists from Frederick and beyond.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun afternoon of tie dying with ice! In this workshop you will learn a variety of ice dying techniques from scrunch to spiral to foils! We will also explore basic color theory to learn how to make the most visually pleasing color combinations!  Participants will go home with a total of two projects with rinse out instructions. \nFor this workshop we are encouraging you to either buy secondhand or use a shirt that you already own\, however\, it is not a requirement. Because everyone is a different shape and size please bring your own clothing to dye. Please note that certain fabrics are not compatible for dying\, please bring items that are 100% cotton. For sake of time and cost of supplies we ask that you only bring a total of two shirts. \n  \n

Don’t forget to bring your notebook! \nThis class will be lead by herbalist\, Amy Boldt! \nAmy started her journey on the path to herbalism having been inspired by self-sufficiency. Her interest in medicinal plants and foraging led her to the Maryland University of Integrative Health (formerly known as Tai Sophia) where she earned a Certification in Herbalism and a Masters of Science in Therapeutic Herbalism. After almost a decade of practicing herbalism privately\, Amy has recently opened her practice to others as she widens her circle. She enjoys helping folks align their rhythms with those of the earth\, so that they can sleep better\, feel less anxious\, and choose the right foods for their bodies. Amy loves meeting new people and guiding them as they harmonize their bodies with the healing powers of nature.
