About the Farm
After years of engaging with farmers from across the region, we knew it was important to participate in the eat local movement where it all begins, at the farm. In spring 2015, we began growing our own produce in Boonsboro, MD. The vegetables grown there can be found in the Produce Department and our Cafe Hotbar.
We have recently received the USDA Organic Certification through Pennsylvania Certified Organics. Our produce is grown primarily using a no-till system. This year we look forward to providing educational opportunities to both our Owners and employees through volunteer days, workshops, and classes.
Eating local is important, and we will continue to support the local food economy in Frederick County.
Please join us as we strive to bring fresh food to you, from your very own farm.
Meet Your Farmers
Connor Self | Farm Manager
Connor joins us for his third season after starting the farm with the Common Market in 2015. Despite growing up Frederick County, Connor was never involved in agriculture before studying the global food system as an International Relations student at the University of San Diego. In doing so, he was awakened to the potential of his home terrain. Guided by the mantra ”Think Global, Act (and Eat) Local,” Connor moved back to Frederick County after graduation and has been integrating himself into the local food scene ever since.
Joelle Dent | Farm Assistant
A Middletown, MD native, Joelle joins us this year after farming abroad through the Peace Corps and WWOOFing (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) and then living in California. This season, you can find her plotting out vegetable beds and planning our volunteer work days.
Joelle hopes to encourage others to consider giving a “second life” to their farm (or backyard) while continuing the conversation about where exactly our food comes from and what exactly to do with it. When she’s not on the farm, you can find Joelle hiking throughout the region, outside with her head in a book, or trying out a new recipe using ingredients sourced from local farmers.
Volunteer with Us
We want your help! Email Joelle at firstname.lastname@example.org to volunteer on the farm or to just visit and see what we’re up to. No experience necessary. No time minimum required. We supply the tools, seeds, and answers to your questions. We look forward to seeing you!
