Kathleen received her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree from Shippensburg University\, where she also helped advance a job skills program for high school students with disabilities. At this time\, Kathleen is working at San Mar\, Family and Community Services serving as the Licensing and Recruitment Coordinator for the Treatment Foster Care program. Kathleen’s goal in this role is to diversify the group of families within San Mar’s Foster Care network\, and bring San Mar’s presence into Frederick County. In her free time Kathleen enjoys volunteering\, kayaking\, and playing board games with friends. Kathleen’s long term career goal is to gain more experience\, and pursue an opportunity to teach social work courses at the college level.

I needed something that transcended the concept of salsa and conforming to my mantra of never following a recipe\, it needed to embrace what made cooking so special to me. The inherent ability to draw from the cultural food palette to invent  flavors that were universally consumed across a spectrum of dishes irrespective of cuisine. \nHaving an existing love for Indian food and culture\, I was inspired by chutney\, a staple meal compliment in Indian cuisine which already shared several of the ingredients with the salsa. Once infused with 7 peppers and 25 fresh ingredients including peaches & mangos\, Chalsa was born. DESCRIPTION:Whether you are an experienced vegetable gardener or just getting started\, it’s never too early to start planning your garden! It takes just a bit of knowledge and intentionality (and sometimes a bit of luck!) to produce your own food. This course will help participants gain an appreciation for planning\, preparing\, and participating in a gardening experience in addition to some seed starting basics! Don will also guide us through what we may need to consider before getting started\, including the costs of growing in our space\, suggested tools\, and commitment required to maintaining your own garden. \nDon Ludke has been a certified Master Gardener for over 13 years\, a public-school teacher in Maryland for 40 years\, and a home gardener for 50 years. He has taught adult gardening classes on a variety of practical gardening and landscape topics throughout the state. His gardening areas of interest and knowledge include companion planting\, crop timing and garden design. He appreciates sharing his experience and knowledge with all who will listen and who are interested in learning about the benefits of gardening.
