SUMMARY:What is Pelvic Floor Therapy? [FREE]
DESCRIPTION:In this free lecture\, learn about optimal pelvic floor functioning and determine whether you could benefit from pelvic floor physical therapy. Some common diagnoses that we see as pelvic floor PTs are incontinence (urinary and fecal)\, constipation\, prolapse\, endometriosis\, pain during pregnancy\, postpartum healing\, diastasis recti\, pediatric pelvic needs\, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome\, men’s health\, trans health\, hip/pelvic girdle dysfunction and pain\, female runners/lifters/athletes (pelvic and orthopedics)\, and more. Come with questions and talk directly with two of our therapists! \nDr. Abby received her BFA in dance from Marymount Manhattan College and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Long Island University in Brooklyn\, NY. While living in New York City\, she utilized her professional dance background while treating ballet dancers and performing artists. Dr. Abby has held board certification in orthopedics through the APTA and is an EXOS Performance Specialist for athletes of all levels. She is recognized as a Certified Manual Trigger Point Therapist and has been trained in advanced dry needling through Myopain. Abby has a special interest in working with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and hypermobility. She is passionate about managing the full spectrum of EDS and dysautonomia\, which includes many urogenital and pelvic complications. \nDr. Meghan Clouspy\, PT\, DPT\, is a high-performing grad of both exercise science and physical therapy from the prestigious program at Shenandoah University. Dr. Meghan has received advanced training in Pelvic Floor and Intrapartum Topics of Obstetric Physical Therapy and loves seeing the merge of hands-on\, manual\, and orthopedic physical therapy with pelvic floor physical therapy. Having discovered that her true passion lies most in treating pelvic health populations and patients with Ehlers-Danlos and hyper-mobility disorders while doing clinical rotations during her doctorate program\, Meghan fervently pursued intense\, evidence-based pelvic PT practice at the very start of her career and has progressed as an expert in the field. She has a true passion for pelvic floor physical therapy and improving postpartum care within the United States. She continuously strives to build and nourish meaningful client-practitioner relationships as well as create a safe environment that’s optimal for healing.

SUMMARY:Eating for Longevity: How to Cook the Blue Zones Way [Part Four] (SOLD OUT)
DESCRIPTION:Want to live to 100? Certain communities around the world\, dubbed Blue Zones by Dan Buettner at National Geographic\, may have the key. The largest populations of centenarians live in Sardinia\, Italy; Okinawa\, Japan; Nicoya\, Costa Rica; Ikaria\, Greece; and Loma Linda\, California\, and their longevity seems to be tied to a variety of common healthy behaviors\, including (if not especially) how they eat\, which is a mostly plant-based diet. In this 5-week cooking demonstration series\, led by culinary coach Alison Wexler\, you will learn about a different Blue Zone each week and how to cook plant-based dishes from that region. \nThe fourth part of this series\, on February 8th\, focuses on Ikaria. Here we find a nuanced version of the tried-and-true Mediterranean diet\, that is heavy on olive oil\, as well as legumes and greens. Come prepared to volunteer as Alison makes Chickpea Soup with Lemon and Herbs and Winter Potato Salad from The Blue Zones Kitchen cookbook. Samples will be served. \nOptional pre-reading and/or viewing for this series \n\nDan Buettner\, The Blue Zones: 9 Lessons for Living Longer from the People Who’ve Lived the Longest\, 2d ed. National Geographic\, 2012.\nDan Buettner\, The Blue Zones Kitchen. National Geographic\, 2019.\n“Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones\,” 4 episodes on Netflix\, 2023.

SUMMARY:Cold Process Soap Making! (for a cause) @ Route 85
DESCRIPTION:This cold process soap making demonstration introduces participants to the fundamentals of traditional soap crafting\, beginning with thoughtful ingredient selection. We will explain the role of different oils and butters and how lye and water initiate saponification\, the chemical process that turns these raw materials into soap. Emphasis is placed on choosing ingredients that balance skin feel\, cleansing ability\, and longevity\, as well as on using fragrances and colorants responsibly to create a product that is both appealing and suitable for a wide range of users. \nThe demonstration also highlights key differences between cold process soap and modern surfactant-based bars. Unlike surfactant bars\, which rely on synthetic detergents and are often pH-balanced to be closer to skin\, cold process soap is made from simple ingredients and retains naturally occurring glycerin\, contributing to its moisturizing qualities. While each type has its place\, cold process soap is valued for its traditional method and customizable formulations. The batch created during this demonstration has a special purpose: once cured\, the soap will be donated to Advocates for Homeless Families\, supporting their work by providing a practical\, handmade item that promotes dignity\, hygiene\, and care within the community. \nYour ticket includes a free bar of Goose Ridge Soaps bar soap ($7.25 retail value)\, a 15% off coupon towards a hands on soap making workshop\, handout of instructions and resources for soap making\, AND $5 from every ticket goes to Project Lather. Learn more about Project Lather.

Participants will learn about the origins of coffee in Ethiopia while observing the traditional roasting and brewing process from green beans to the final pour. The ceremony invites mindful presence through sight\, sound\, and scent\, emphasizing coffee as a shared cultural experience rather than a quick beverage. Attendees will enjoy a guided tasting of freshly brewed Ethiopian coffee and leave with a deeper appreciation for coffee’s cultural roots. \nElsa is Ethiopian-born and a coffee ceremony host and cultural educator based in Maryland. She brings lived cultural knowledge of the Ethiopian coffee ceremony to community spaces through guided ritual\, storytelling\, and sensory tasting experiences. Elsa has hosted Ethiopian Coffee Ceremonies at cafés\, community venues\, festivals\, and private gatherings throughout Maryland since 2024\, including an ongoing quarterly collaboration with Dublin Roasters Coffee. Her work centers on honoring ancestral tradition while creating welcoming\, accessible experiences for modern audiences. \nPhoto by: Sarah Rachael Photography
