SUMMARY:Eating for Longevity: How to Cook the Blue Zones Way [Part Three] (SOLD OUT)
DESCRIPTION:Want to live to 100? Certain communities around the world\, dubbed Blue Zones by Dan Buettner at National Geographic\, may have the key. The largest populations of centenarians live in Sardinia\, Italy; Okinawa\, Japan; Nicoya\, Costa Rica; Ikaria\, Greece; and Loma Linda\, California\, and their longevity seems to be tied to a variety of common healthy behaviors\, including (if not especially) how they eat\, which is a mostly plant-based diet. In this 5-week cooking demonstration series\, led by culinary coach Alison Wexler\, you will learn about a different Blue Zone each week and how to cook plant-based dishes from that region. \nThe third part of this series\, on February 1st\, focuses on Nicoya. Latin American food isn’t all meat and tortillas. The Nicoyans have subsided on a mostly meatless diet\, made up primarily of beans\, rice\, corn\, squash\, and fresh fruits for generations. Come prepared to volunteer as Alison makes Gallo Pinto and Hearts of Palm Ceviche from The Blue Zones Kitchen cookbook. Samples will be served. \nOptional pre-reading and/or viewing for this series \n\nDan Buettner\, The Blue Zones: 9 Lessons for Living Longer from the People Who’ve Lived the Longest\, 2d ed. National Geographic\, 2012.\nDan Buettner\, The Blue Zones Kitchen. National Geographic\, 2019.\n“Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones\,” 4 episodes on Netflix\, 2023.

SUMMARY:What is Pelvic Floor Therapy? [FREE]
DESCRIPTION:In this free lecture\, learn about optimal pelvic floor functioning and determine whether you could benefit from pelvic floor physical therapy. Some common diagnoses that we see as pelvic floor PTs are incontinence (urinary and fecal)\, constipation\, prolapse\, endometriosis\, pain during pregnancy\, postpartum healing\, diastasis recti\, pediatric pelvic needs\, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome\, men’s health\, trans health\, hip/pelvic girdle dysfunction and pain\, female runners/lifters/athletes (pelvic and orthopedics)\, and more. Come with questions and talk directly with two of our therapists! \nDr. Abby received her BFA in dance from Marymount Manhattan College and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Long Island University in Brooklyn\, NY. While living in New York City\, she utilized her professional dance background while treating ballet dancers and performing artists. Dr. Abby has held board certification in orthopedics through the APTA and is an EXOS Performance Specialist for athletes of all levels. She is recognized as a Certified Manual Trigger Point Therapist and has been trained in advanced dry needling through Myopain. Abby has a special interest in working with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and hypermobility. She is passionate about managing the full spectrum of EDS and dysautonomia\, which includes many urogenital and pelvic complications. \nDr. Meghan Clouspy\, PT\, DPT\, is a high-performing grad of both exercise science and physical therapy from the prestigious program at Shenandoah University. Dr. Meghan has received advanced training in Pelvic Floor and Intrapartum Topics of Obstetric Physical Therapy and loves seeing the merge of hands-on\, manual\, and orthopedic physical therapy with pelvic floor physical therapy. Having discovered that her true passion lies most in treating pelvic health populations and patients with Ehlers-Danlos and hyper-mobility disorders while doing clinical rotations during her doctorate program\, Meghan fervently pursued intense\, evidence-based pelvic PT practice at the very start of her career and has progressed as an expert in the field. She has a true passion for pelvic floor physical therapy and improving postpartum care within the United States. She continuously strives to build and nourish meaningful client-practitioner relationships as well as create a safe environment that’s optimal for healing.
