SUMMARY:Eating for Longevity: How to Cook the Blue Zones Way [Part Five] (SOLD OUT)
DESCRIPTION:Want to live to 100? Certain communities around the world\, dubbed Blue Zones by Dan Buettner at National Geographic\, may have the key. The largest populations of centenarians live in Sardinia\, Italy; Okinawa\, Japan; Nicoya\, Costa Rica; Ikaria\, Greece; and Loma Linda\, California\, and their longevity seems to be tied to a variety of common healthy behaviors\, including (if not especially) how they eat\, which is a mostly plant-based diet. In this 5-week cooking demonstration series\, led by culinary coach Alison Wexler\, you will learn about a different Blue Zone each week and how to cook plant-based dishes from that region. \nThe fifth and final part of this series\, on February 15th\, focuses on Loma Linda. Loma Linda has a large Seventh Day Adventist community\, and they espouse a mostly plant-based diet as part of their faith. This is where American staples get a vegetarian or vegan upgrade. Come prepared to volunteer as Alison makes One-Pot Lasagna Soup and Coconut Chia Pudding from The Blue Zones Cookbook. Samples will be served. \nOptional pre-reading and/or viewing for this series \n\nDan Buettner\, The Blue Zones: 9 Lessons for Living Longer from the People Who’ve Lived the Longest\, 2d ed. National Geographic\, 2012.\nDan Buettner\, The Blue Zones Kitchen. National Geographic\, 2019.\n“Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones\,” 4 episodes on Netflix\, 2023.

SUMMARY:What is Pelvic Floor Therapy? [FREE]

Come with questions and talk directly with two of our therapists! \nDr. Abby received her BFA in dance from Marymount Manhattan College and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Long Island University in Brooklyn\, NY. While living in New York City\, she utilized her professional dance background while treating ballet dancers and performing artists. Dr. Abby has held board certification in orthopedics through the APTA and is an EXOS Performance Specialist for athletes of all levels. She is recognized as a Certified Manual Trigger Point Therapist and has been trained in advanced dry needling through Myopain. Abby has a special interest in working with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and hypermobility. Having discovered that her true passion lies most in treating pelvic health populations and patients with Ehlers-Danlos and hyper-mobility disorders while doing clinical rotations during her doctorate program\, Meghan fervently pursued intense\, evidence-based pelvic PT practice at the very start of her career and has progressed as an expert in the field. She has a true passion for pelvic floor physical therapy and improving postpartum care within the United States. She continuously strives to build and nourish meaningful client-practitioner relationships as well as create a safe environment that’s optimal for healing.

SUMMARY:Eating for Health & the Planet | Making the Switch to a Climate-Friendly Diet [FREE]
DESCRIPTION:Studies show that just by eating more plant foods and fewer animal products each of us has the power to make a big difference for the climate and for our health. If you have been thinking about switching to a more plant-based diet\, but aren’t sure how\, join us for this fun and informative talk by Alison Wexler\, a National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC)\, culinary coach\, and Frederick County Food Council Steering Committee member. \nAlison will be giving an introduction to different plant-based diets and how they support the climate\, as well as your body. SUMMARY:"Detox Your House Cleaning Products" and All-Purpose Cleaner Making Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Studies show that what we use to clean our homes is just as important as what we put in and on our bodies. When we use toxic products to clean our homes\, they will make their way into our bodies eventually. Indoor air quality can be up to 5 times more polluted than the air outside and much of that is due to the toxins that we use in our homes. \nThe good news is that we can still effectively clean using simple\, easy-to-find ingredients without the toxic chemicals; and yes\, we can still disinfect as well! Join us for an informational session and hands-on workshop on the steps you can take to detox your house cleaning products and make your very own all-purpose cleaner to take home with you to get you started.
