Welcome to The Common Market, Your Locally-Owned Grocery & Cafe! Start here.

Don’t Forget to Bring-A-Bag

Each quarter, the Common Market sends a poll to owners, asking them to vote for non profit organizations to be represented in the Bring-A-Bag Program. With this program, each customer that brings their own shopping bag receives a green token, which they then place into a designated bin for charity. Each token is worth 5 cents. So while you are saving bags from landfills, you are also helping local charities.

This quarter, the local charities the Bring-A-Bag Program will benefit the following charities:

Environmental: Future Harvest

As the Chesapeake Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture, Future Harvest provides education, networking, and advocacy services to help build a sustainable Chesapeake food shed. This helps strengthen farming and the regional food economy, protect the environment, and provide nutritious food for the region.

Child & Family: Share Our Strength – No Kid Hungry

Share Our Strength has multiple campaign tools to end hunger in the United States and abroad. No Kid Hungry works to end childhood hunger in the U.S. Since the program was implemented, they have provided 775 million meals to children.

Animal Welfare: Animals’ Angels

Cooperating with other enforcement agencies, Animals’ Angels is an investigation and advocacy non-profit that strives to improve conditions for farm animals.

Community: Feed The Hungry

A local organization, Waterboyz works to provide wholesome food to their community through the Feed The Hungry campaign.

So be sure to bring your bag to your next shopping trip to donate your token to one of these worthy organizations.
