Owner Appreciation Days
OAD Gets a Makeover!
OAD, or Owner Appreciation Day, is a favorite benefit for Common Market Co-op Owners, and has been since its inception. The ten percent discount off Owners’ purchases and food demos throughout the store draw record numbers of shoppers on these days. In the past, OAD has been limited to one day every three months and this day was chosen by the staff of the Common Market.
We have heard feedback from many Owners who are not able to shop on the one day we have chosen for OAD in the past. And we know that the number of shoppers and shopping carts in the store on that day can make the store feel more frantic than festive for those who are shopping.
So the staff has been working hard to come up with a strategy to continue offering Owner Appreciation Day discounts to Common Market Owners that is both equitable and available to more Owners, and financially sustainable for the Co-op.
Owner Appreciation Day is being extended to three days to allow greater flexibility for more Owners to enjoy the discount. With more Owners able to take advantage of this benefit, it is necessary to reduce the frequency from four times a year to three times a year. Owner Appreciation Day dates for 2010 are as follows:
Thursday through Saturday
- March 5 & 6 (Friday thru Saturday Only)
Here is how it will work. During these three days, Owners choose one shopping trip on which they can save 10%. Let your cashier know at the beginning of the transaction when you want to use the discount. Having the option to choose when you use the discount allows you to buy lunch on one day, opting not to use the discount, and save it for later when you have planned for your substantial shopping trip.
The amount Owners spend, after the discount is applied, will count toward Patronage Rebate accounts. Owners should continue to have their Owner cards scanned each time they shop.
Owners who are “Not in Good Standing” are not eligible to receive the discount until the past-due balance is paid. Owners who are Not in Good Standing have received notices of the amount that is past-due. Owners can pay past-due amounts at any time and become eligible to receive the discount. Inherent in every cooperative’s mission is to find ways to best meet the needs of the cooperative as a whole. It is our hope that, by making OAD three consecutive days, more Owners can take advantage of the OAD discount and product sampling while relieving some of the shopping congestion of past OADs.
